The Rapid City, Pierre, and Eastern Railroad
Thunder on the prairie!
In 2014, the Canadian Pacific Railroad sold all of its former Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern trackage west of Tracy, MN to the Genesee and Wyoming Company. what emerged from this sale was the Rapid City, Pierre, and Eastern railroad. From the picturesque Black Hills in the west to the pothole lakes and long grass prairies of west, central Minnesota, the RCP&E railroad runs through the heart of South Dakota serving communities big and small.
The RCP&E is a class II railroad that owns 743 miles of track in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Nebraska. The railroad specializes in shipping bulk commodities such as grain, cement, bentonite clay, and ethanol. The railroad also handles freight for smaller businesses throughout its territory. The RCP&E has two regional offices, one in Huron and the other in Rapid City.
We want to thank the Rapid City, Pierre, and Eastern Railroad for being a sponsor of our museum! For more information about the railroad, including employment opportunities, go to the railroad website below. Thank you!
