Time Rail

The oldest permanent exhibit in our museum is the "time rail", an 80 foot wall summarizing the history of railroading in South Dakota.  At the moment the timeline is complete up until 2014 with the creation of the Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern railroad after the sale of all former Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern trackage west of Tracy, Minnesota by Canadian Pacific to the Genessee and Wyoming Company.  The Time Rail aims to give context to all the other exhibits in the museum and is as good of an introduction as we can create to explain the history of railroads in our state.
